I sat down for an interview with Patrick Culliton and Jay Varner, the gents behind the web-phenom Talus, Or Scree. After a little curtain raising with Varner's visit to Civil War battlefield, the podcast proper starts. We have a pretty good talk about film noir, Hell On Church Street, and Encyclopedia Brown.

Interview with Elaine Ash

A few years ago, I had the good fortune to work with editor Elaine Ash on a story I had published at Beat To Pulp. Elaine has an unforgiving eye for soggy phrasing, but she's also incredibly encouraging when she likes something. Both are good qualities in an editor.

She's been a real cheerleader for me, and when I told her that I had a novel coming out next year, she suggested we do an interview to talk about the experience so far.

Interview with a Night Editor

Author Nigel Bird hosts a fun series called Dancing With Myself wherein he asks writers to interview themselves. He's had all kinds of folks interview their bad selves, from big-timers like Lawrence Block and Maxim Jakubowski to scrappy legends-in-the-making like Eric Beetner and Paul Brazill. Normally, this kind of self-pleasuring is best kept behind closed doors, but when Nigel asks you to do something, it's wise to say yes. The man was a primary school teacher in the UK, for god's sake. He accepts no guff.
