100 Greatest Movie Villains

The good people over at the blog Only Good Movies have posted a list of their 100 Great Movie Villains. They've included, at number 16, Richard Boone as Cicero Grimes in Martin Ritt's Hombre and included a link to The Night Editor's review of the film. Linking up to this blog shows excellent taste, but lists like this are wholly subjective, of course, and exist to be disagreed with. That's the fun of it all, really.

Those of us who spend most of our movie-watching time in Dark City will probably disagree with some of the picks under the Crime Movie Villains section (no Raymond Burr in Raw Deal? no William Talman in The Hitch-Hiker? and no femme fatales at all? Marie Windsor in The Killing? Lizabeth Scott in Too Late For Tears? not even Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indeminity?), but the list is a lot of fun and does tip the hat to two great noir villains (Joseph Cotton in Shadow Of A Doubt and Robert Mitchum in The Night Of The Hunter).

In addition, each entry on the list links to a different blog for a discussion of the film at hand. I hadn't seen many of these blogs, and some are quite good. Check it out.

No Barbara Stanwyck? I haven't even looked at the list and already it has no credibility! (But I'm going to look anyway. You're right, that's the fun of such lists.)
